Carruth Corner – December 2025

December 16, 2025

Happy Holidays from The Carruth Center! It has been so fun seeing the children excited about the upcoming holiday break! Parents, this time of year is so busy but this time of life flies by so savor it all!! The team here kick-started our holiday spirit by hosting our third year of Sensory Santa. Children were able to sign up for a time with Santa without the crowds and lines usually associated with a Santa visit and were provided with sensory supports if needed. We loved seeing our families participate in this!

In January, we begin enrollment for our summer camps. The Carruth Center offers 4 on-site camps and 1 sleep-away camp every summer. If you would like to find out more about these camps, as well as the very popular Camp Acorn on The Parish School campus, please attend the hybrid Camp 101 presentation on January 15 at 9 a.m. CST. To find out more, click here. Camp applications go live on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Links to all applications can be found on The Parish School and Carruth Center websites at that time. Parish and Carruth camps fill quickly! Please reach out to me with any questions you may have about our various camp options.

We are launching a new camp this year, Brain Boss!! This is a 7-week camp for children ages 8 and up. Children plan and execute a group project while learning strategies that help with planning and time management. The group will choose the project on day 1 of camp, and the following weeks will be used to work on execution. We are hoping for some fun projects like a lemonade stand or a fashion show! This camp will use the Time Tracker Program strategies which help children see and feel the passage of time, break larger tasks into manageable microtasks and how to deal with distractions or setbacks.

In January, we are also thrilled host a parent ed by Nancy Kaufman! Nancy is a leader in the world of speech-language pathology and has developed a widely-adopted methodology, The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol, for the treatment of childhood apraxia of speech. Nancy will present a virtual parent education seminar: “Childhood Apraxia of Speech: Top 10 Tips to Empower Parents” on January 14, 2026, at 6 p.m. CST. This event’s target audience is parents of children with apraxia or severe articulation disorders. This is a great opportunity to hear from the leading expert treating apraxia! Sign-up to attend this event is here.

The Carruth Center is hiring! We are hoping to add a part-time SLP to the team. If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to me at mbranham@carruthcenter.org.

Please note, The Carruth Center will be closed from December 22, 2025–January 3, 2026, for winter break. We will re-open on January 5, 2026. Wishing you and your families a peaceful and happy holiday season!
