October was busy at The Carruth Center as we attended The Parish School’s annual “Giving Voice to Children” luncheon. This year, both of the couples who spoke at the luncheon were alumni parents, and it was such an incredible reminder of the impact Parish School has on children’s futures! Being a child’s therapist, it is easy to see the impact of our services in incremental steps and the effect on their day-to-day lives, but it is remarkable to hear from alumni families about our grown clients and students! If you are a former Carruth client, please reach out to us anytime to let us know how your child (maybe now adult) is doing!
In October, The Carruth Center also hosted the Houston Walk for Apraxia. The campus circle drive was busy with water pistols, games, train rides, a DJ and other fun activities. The Walk for Apraxia raises money for Apraxia Kids. This organization funds children’s therapies through scholarships, provides funds for research and funds for AAC devices for children. It is an organization close to our heart as it is a sizable part of our clientele here. We have been fortunate to be able to provide extensive training to our SLPs to be experts in this area!
As the weather gets cooler, we begin planning our winter activities. One of our favorite events is Sensory Santa! Visiting Santa can sometimes be overwhelming for our clients. We will provide a less crowded, quieter opportunity to visit Santa who will have sensory supports in his cottage. Santa’s elves are available to take your family’s picture with your cell phone. Santa and his elves will be here one day only, so this visit has to be limited to only those families of Parish students or Carruth clients and spots are limited. This event is free! Sign up to see Santa here.
Wishing everyone a great November and a happy Thanksgiving! The Carruth Center will be closed the week of Thanksgiving as well as two weeks during the December holidays. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about our services or need information.
