Carruth Corner – February 2024

February 28, 2024
The Parish School and The Carruth Center have a unique relationship that I often explain when giving tours or discussing our services with new families. The Carruth Center is an outpatient therapy clinic located on the grounds of The Parish School. Not all Parish students attend additional therapies at The Carruth Center, but about a third of students do at some point in their education. These services may include individual speech, occupational, physical, play or music therapies, Social Learning groups, psychological testing or many of our summer camps. In addition, not all Carruth Center clients are Parish students. In fact, the majority of our clients (~68%) do not attend Parish. We are fortunate to be able to collaborate with The Parish School team for those children we share, and to be able to connect with the community at large for others.
The Parish School is accepting applications for the 2024-25 school year. Here is a video that tells you more about Parish and what makes it so special.
This year marks The Parish School’s 40th anniversary! If you are a Parish alumni or previous employee, please try to attend the Mighty Oak Bash to celebrate with us on April 20th. Information can be found here. We hope to visit with many alumni and hope that alumni get to reconnect with each other!
On a different note, rodeo season has arrived! The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a wonderful experience for children, but the sights, sounds and smells can be overwhelming for some. If you know a child who may experience sensory overload at the rodeo, consider a few of the following tips from Michelle Groogan at The Buzz.
