It is so wonderful to have The Parish School and Carruth Center campus buzzing again with back-to-school activities! We are excited to welcome back our Parish School students and to get all of our clients from outside of The Parish School back on regular rotation. We can’t wait to hear about your child’s summer adventures! By now, (other than Social Learning groups) your therapist should have confirmed your child’s schedule with you. If you ever have any questions about our services or your child’s schedule, please reach out to us!
Over the summer the Parish School and Carruth Center campus erected an 8-foot fence around the property. Once the gate is fully functional, families will gain access to campus by using the screen at the entrance which will contact us to open the gate. During busy times, specifically campus pick-up and drop-off, the gate may be open, and a car line may form. Each Carruth Center client will have a hang tag for their car that will help move any pick-up or drop-off lines more efficiently during these times. Your therapy team will be distributing these over the next few weeks. If you are ever stuck in a pick-up or drop-off line that is not moving, please let us know. If you need an additional tag for someone else who regularly picks up or drops off your child, we will assign another one to you.
During the month of September, we will push out refreshed paperwork to all of our active clients. This will include a new consent for therapy services, authorization for emergencies, disclosure form and updated Carruth Center policies. One of the policies I want to highlight is our attendance policy. While we have always had a sick policy, we have actually never had an attendance policy! We are asking all clients to maintain attendance rates of 80% or better during the Fall and Spring semesters in order to remain on their therapist’s caseload. This has become necessary as we often maintain a waitlist, especially for our therapists who have specialized training. Please reach out to me with any questions about the implementation of this policy.
On August 19th, the Three Corners West apartment complex at the corner of Gessner and Kempwood caught fire causing families in over 100 units to be displaced and the entire apartment complex to close as they do not have utilities. A drone video of this devastation was taken by a neighbor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4ziYmmkFUo. The Carruth Center and The Parish School are collecting gently used children’s clothing on Monday, 8/25, and Tuesday, 8/26, to take to the American Legion to donate to the families in need. Parish School families can drop off clothing at carpool or in the Parish School lobby. Carruth Center clients can drop off clothing in the lobby.
Thank you in advance for helping these families in need!
The Parish School, Carruth Center and The Westview School are partnering with Girl Scouts! The Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Through hands-on activities, STEM, outdoor adventures, and leadership opportunities, girls in grades K–12 discover their strengths and grow alongside friends and mentors. If you are interested in joining and would like more information, feel free to contact Sandy Alvarez at salvarez@sjgs.org or text 713-292-0380.
We wish all a smooth start to the school year!
